Waggy Wednesday presents: birthday pupcakes for pupperoo

Every year since I adopted my girl I’ve made a bit of a spectacle of her birthday, which happens to fall on the exact same day as mine.

Each May 12th she gets a homemade treat from me, and this year she even had a birthday pawty at Asbury’s own Wonder Bar Yappy Hour. In this post, I’ve included the recipe to my favorite doggy treat thus far, which I then freeze and take out for other special occasions (or when I want ice cream and Lux hears me open the freezer and I can’t resist her begging face).

INGREDIENTS

CUPCAKES
1 cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup applesauce
1 cup shredded
carrots
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 egg
1 tbsp honey

ICING
¼ cup chunky peanut butter
¼ cup organic pumpkin
8 oz. cream cheese
*optional – top with sliced banana, carob chips, bacon, a treat – make it your own!

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Lightly grease muffin tins.

  3. In a bowl, combine the applesauce, egg, and honey.

  4. In another bowl, mix the flour and oats.

  5. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients slowly.

  6. Stir in carrots.

  7. Pour in and bake about 20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

  8. When cool, apply icing and decorate as desired. Done! Serve to pooch.
